Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Am I really required by law to have health insurance?

Answer:The answer is YES for most individuals. If you don’t have health insurance through your employer, you are required by the Affordable Care Act (commonly known as “Obamacare”) to have an individual health insurance policy. If you don’t have insurance you will pay a penalty when you file your taxes.

Question: Can I buy health insurance whenever I want to?

Answer:NO – every year there is an open enrollment period during which you can enroll in a plan for the following year. For 2016 the enrollment period will be November 1, 2015 – January 31st, 2016. Outside of open enrollment you are allowed to purchase insurance only if you have a qualifying event such as losing group coverage, getting married, or moving to a different state.

Question: Can I call your office for help about what insurance I need?

Answer: YES – we are here to help you. Our office is open from 8 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. We are happy to answer your insurance questions.

Question: Do I pay more if I buy insurance through an agent?

Answer: NO – you pay exactly the same as you would if you buy on line or directly from an insurance company. The difference is the service we offer – a real person who will be there to help you during the application process and assist you with any questions that arise afterwards.
