
- Do you have current employer coverage? Your employer will be informing you whether or not your plan meets the new standards and what your options are.
- Do you have an individual policy? All current plans will be ending Dec 31, 2013 and insurance companies will be offering new plans that meet the ACA standards. Your company will notify you of the changes and you will have the option of choosing a new plan (at a new rate). - Determine whether or not you qualify for tax credits and cost sharing help. If so, you must purchase your insurance through Cover Oregon. Please call us! We can help you shop the marketplace. If not, there is no reason to shop through Cover Oregon. All insurers have new plans and there are countless options available. Please call us for assistance.
- Do nothing. You say “To heck with it, I’m not coughing up that much money for insurance”. This might be a tempting option, but remember, IT’S THE LAW. There will be penalties if you do not provide proof of insurance at the end of the year when you file your taxes. In 2014, it will be $95 per person or 1% of your income WHICHEVER IS HIGHER. And it will go up in subsequent years.
